Overall, terrible purchasing experience. I was lied to several times about the history of this vehicle. I would advise no one purchase a vehicle here because you can’t be sure they’re telling you the truth. Management must be pushing sales to the point that their representatives feel the need to falsify information to customers. On the morning of 1/18/25, I called this dealership to ask if they still had a new Tiguan SEL R-Line on the lot. After some back and forth, I was told that there was. After confirming several times that it was brand new, I cancelled my plans for the day and came down to the dealership. When I arrived, the salesman Tiago showed me a used car with a Carfax sticker and 5,000+ miles on it and told me with a straight face that it was new. He looked to see if they could get a new SEL R-Line there and couldn’t find any, so we left the dealership. About an hour later, I received several phone calls from Tiago. I was not at a place to talk, so he texted me that a brand new car was just “driven from the factory” onto the lot and that other customers were currently looking at the vehicle. He repeated that it was “brand new” and “on the way already before I got there” that morning (I can provide screenshots of this conversation, if requested). We once again cancelled our plans for the evening and came to the dealership. When we got there, we asked for more information about how the vehicle got 800 miles, which seemed like a lot for a new car. Tiago claimed yet again that it was “driven from the factory” and that he didn’t have details of where exactly it came from. We asked for a Carfax and were told that because it was “brand new,” it did not have a Carfax. We were assured several more times this was a new vehicle and went ahead with the purchase, working with finance manager Brando. The next day, we found a receipt for window tinting on 12/14/24 and a customer copy of a service invoice performed at this Napleton Volkswagen of Sanford on 12/7/24. Realizing that we had just been lied to several times, we looked up the Carfax for the car and saw that it was previously registered in December. We contacted the person listed on the service invoice and they confirmed they owned the car for 3 weeks in December before returning the vehicle. On Monday, 1/20/25, we came into the dealership to get a clear answer. The customer relations manager, Felicia, was the first to speak with us and, while very nice, told us there must have been a mistake; constantly making up excuses and false stories before trying to get to the facts of what happened. The general sales manager, Nick, was even less helpful. Claiming to be “transparent,” he told us that the car never left the lot. This was obviously a blatant lie. After repeating several times that he was being “transparent” and that the car “never left the lot,” he walked away and did not speak to us again. They then took us into an office to speak with a finance manager, Kevin, and the title clerk, Kristen. Kristen was able to explain that while the car was purchased, the sale was never official and therefore the car was never officially titled. In order for a car to be technically new, it must have never been titled. While this means the deal was completely legal, it still felt extremely unfair. The car’s history was completely different than what we were told. This dealership lied to us several times and when we confronted them, we were told that the car was still “technically brand new.” We bought this car under false pretenses. After discussing the matter with Kevin and Kristen, we spoke to Brando again. As before, he was extremely nice and helpful with the situation. Throughout our visit, we never once spoke to the general manager. This whole situation was awful. I never want to return to this dealership again and will be telling everyone I know what my experience was like.
