Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Overview

Want to know more about the brand-new Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport? You've come to the right place. Napleton's Volkswagen of Sanford, FL is where you'll find great deals on the latest SUV from VW. This article will tell you everything you want to know about this highly-anticipated new SUV from the German automaker.

Volkswagen released the Atlas Cross Sport in the Spring of 2020 and it hit our dealership showroom in Sanford, FL, in April.

We see the new Volkswagen Atlass Cross Sport SUV as the new sexy, shorter sister of the Volkswagen Atlas. But don't let that description fool you because while it may be smaller, nothing is left out.

The new SUV in Volkswagen's lineup will be a formidable competitor to models like the Honda Passport, Ford Edge, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

If you're curious to know how the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport compares to the original Atlas, it's 2.8 inches shorter and 2.3 inches lower. Nonetheless, there is still plenty of cabin space for passengers and cargo. Lastly, the Cross Sport rides on a 117.3-inch wheelbase, the same dimensions as the original Atlas model.

Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Exterior

The first thing people notice when looking at the new Volkswagen Cross Sport is the three-bar chrome grille. Add that to a new bumper and sculpted hood and you are left with a sporty SUV that's guaranteed to turn heads wherever you go.

The interior of the SUV doesn't disappoint, either. A few important updates include the tweaked dashboard, new steering wheel, and handsomely stitched door panels. For more comfort, Volkswagen offers heated and ventilated front seats, rear sunshades, and a 12-speaker Fender audio system for those who want to feel like they are in a concert hall while driving.

As mentioned above, even though the new Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is smaller, it has plenty of cargo space. You get a total of 77.8 cubic feet with the second raw seats folded, which is on par with that of Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Connectivity, Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

One of the features that really captured our attention is the addition of Car-Net technology. Car-Net is a suite of apps similar to OnStar. Once synced with your smart phone, it allows things like remote access, remote car horn, and the ability to flash the lights of the vehicle. You can even check how much fuel is left in the tank from your phone without ever stepping into the vehicle.

Since these days everyone is connected at all times, a feature like Car-Net Hotspot allows internet access for up to four connected devices at 4G LTE speed. This is bound to be appreciated by everyone in your family - from your wife enjoying her TV show on the road to your kids playing a game on their tablets or listening to music on their phones. You can even make last minute changes to the presentation on your laptop if you're running late for work.

Safety is of paramount importance, and the new Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is built to keep you and the passengers within your vehicle safe. A few of its advanced driver-assistance features include blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and forward collision warning with autonomous braking.

Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Engine

The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport will have you clamoring with excitement. It comes with two engines that you can choose from - a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder that produces 235-horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque; or a 276-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 266 lb-ft of torque.

For the lucky ones among us living in sunny Florida, the standard front-wheel-drive (FWD) might be all we need. But the folks in the Midwest will really appreciate the 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) during the long winters (available with both engines).  As for fuel efficiency, EPA Estimates for the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is 21/24 with 2.0-liter turbo and FWD and 18/23 with the 4Motion AWD. As of writing this, there are no public ratings for the V6 engine.
